I remember when I was young, it seemed like I had unlimited amounts of energy. So when it came to work, as long as the job paid well I could go for ten hour shifts everyday!
I was eighteen and there were so many things that I wanted to buy, so I worked various jobs and made as much money as I could.
I thought I hit gold when I found an opportunity to start my own business, the money that I could make was through the roof. So of course I had to take it, I officially was a business owner.
Twelve years later the job has lost all the excitement, even over the money. I have grown up and realized a few things that I want everyone to learn: money is not enough; your work affects the rest of your life. If you are miserable at work, you will be miserable in your life. (see also Making your life miserable)
I have been miserable in my business for the last five years, yes I did say five years! Why haven’t I left? I don’t have a college degree and I don’t have any special skills, so I felt stuck.
There have been good days but for the most part I go to work wishing I was doing something else, something that I was passionate about. Waking up at one am every morning to deliver bread really weighs on you.
Last year I said enough was enough and decided to take advantage of all the opportunity that’s available to us with the internet and social media. I self-published two Ebooks and at first they flopped, only selling eight copies.
I wanted to give up and quit but some friends encouraged me to stick it out, they wouldn’t let me give up. To date the E-books have sold over 65,000 copies. I started coaching and consulting companies. I started speaking at events literally all over the world; I just got back from Sydney, Australia. (see also Motivational success stories)
You know what, I’m happy! I’m not all the way where I want to be but I have found that passion and freedom that I have been missing. It hasn’t been easy, there have been bumps along the way, but this journey is everything I’ve dreamed of.
If you are doing work that makes you miserable, then you won’t truly be happy. One thing that we know but fail to acknowledge is that we’re not guaranteed a tomorrow. If you died tomorrow can you honestly say that you done everything in your life that you’ve wanted too?
At the end of your life you won’t remember all the stuff you were able to but with all the money you made, you’ll remember all of your amazing experiences.

So here it is, one secret to happiness: stop settling, stop making excuses, so that you can live a life you’ve only dreamed of.
Living out your dreams is easier then you think: figure out what you’re dreams are, make a plan to attain them, and take action on that plan. I just gave you a formula that I have used in my life to go from a job that I hated to an author, international speaker and consultant.
The only thing that’s stopping you, is you. So get out of your own way and claim that life you truly deserve. It’s not going to be easy and at times you’ll want to give up, but I promise you that in the end it will be worth it!
