How many times people managed to change your idea about something you really believed in?
How many times you gave up on something just because people convinced you that it can't be done?
Most new businesses fail, this is a known fact but do you have any idea why those businesses fail? One of the main reasons new ventures fail is that the founders give up on their businesses few weeks or months after they start working on them.
But the important question is why would someone start a business if believes that it won't work? Here is the simple answer, a person starts a business because he has solid faith that its going to work but after some time people manage to put him down and let him believe that his idea won't work and that's why he gives up on it.
In brief, people brainwash the entrepreneur until they force him to give up on something that he really believed in.
In 2006 i had a solid belief in the idea of starting an online business. I remember i was so excited about starting 2knowmyself that i wrote 200+ articles in less than a month in order to launch the site as quickly as i can.
Most people believe that they can't succeed and because of that believe they tend to assume that everyone will fail as well. I didn't know this fact back then and that's why i was shocked when people started to put me down. Here are some examples of what i have been told at that time:
"People don't like to read"
"Egyptians won't be interested in your site"
"Stop wasting your time"
"focus on your career"
"That's not going to work"
Hundreds of people tried to put me down until one day i thought about quitting!!
Yes i still remember that day where i started to question the idea that i once believed in. I thought about giving up on 2knowmyself for one day then thanks to God by the end of the day i said to myself that even if the project failed i wont lose anything and so i kept moving on.
At that point i wasn't aware of the fact that people put others down because of many reasons such as jealousy, believing that no one can succeed because they didn't, feeling afraid to be left out if you succeeded, being pessimistic or because they think that everyone is as incompetent as them.
I kept moving forward taking one baby step each day until the site took off. Later when i made my first million i made an announcement on Facebook to silence those who used to put me down forever. (see my book How i did it)
Now the weird thing wasn't that the people who used to put me down stopped doing that but what happened is that some of them started pushing me forward and telling me that they always believed in me.
when you start a new project most people will try to put you down but when that project succeeds the same people will tell you that they believed in it from day one. People can be irrational and insane in sometimes especially when they find someone about to do something that they never dared to do.
Before you follow people or believe them when they put you down ask yourself few questions: are they really happy? are they really successful? have they realized their dreams?
And now that you answered all the questions with no why the heck are you following and believing them?
