"By the time you're eighty years old you've learned everything. You only have to remember it" author Unknown
I am not 80 years old (yet), so I decided I had better write this article while I can still remember what life has taught me and share my wonderful journey so far.
Have you ever looked back on your life and wished you could change thing?
As we get older we look back and see a story of our life. Yes, we make mistakes (which I always call learning experience), but if we have values to follow; life is going to be like a slow moving stream instead of a raging river.
It doesn’t matter how many days make up your life, but how you use those days. It is like money in the bank. If you hoard your money and don’t make good use of it; it is useless. Every day of our life is like that; to live a rewarding life we have to learn to use our days to the fullest.
1. Always be the first to say “Hello”. You never know where a simple hello may lead. It may be your best friend for life or the partner you have been wishing for.
2. Live simple and beneath your means. Don’t always wish you had more or something someone else has. Be thankful for what you do have and take good care of it. You will never have to worry about bills piling up you can’t pay.
3. Don’t wish the day would get over; there may not be a tomorrow. Live every day with joy in your heart and grateful for your health.
4. Be happy it is Monday. You have a brand new week ahead to start life over if you feel the need. Your life would be over if there were no more Mondays.
5. Show respect to others. You never know what they can teach you or help you with. They will respect you for respecting them.
6. Never blame others. You are responsible for your life, so if you have a problem look at yourself first. Blaming others delays your learning.
7. Admit when you make a mistake. You are going to be admired for this.
8. Hug a child after you discipline them. This is when they need it the most.
9. Don’t take your health for granted. Good health is a blessing, always be thankful for it. Life can change quickly.
10. Forget the Joneses. They are probably in debt up to their ears. People like you for who you are, not what you have.
11. Have big thoughts, enjoy life’s small treasures. It is the small things in life that have the biggest pay off in the end.
12. Choose your life partner carefully. With this one decision you are going to find a wonderful life or a life of misery.
13. Look for the positive side of any situation. Everything has a positive side if we wait long enough to see it. When you look back and see how the dots connect you are going to find a beautiful life picture.
14. Smile a lot. A smile makes you feel better and helps anyone receiving it.
15. Never Cheat or lie. These are going to keep following you around until the truth comes out.
16. Learn to Listen. You never know when opportunity could be knocking.
17. Take care of your teeth. If they are crooked, straighten them, if they are dull, whiten them. You will smile more.
18. Don’t worry about money. The more you worry the less you have. Limited funds are a blessing; they encourage you to be creative.
19. Keep your living and working space free of clutter. You will have more time to think and be creative.
20. Be on time. No one likes to wait for others, so respect others time or the train may leave without you someday.
21. Never give up on your dreams. Dreams are more powerful than all the facts.
22. Give others a second chance. Walk away if they are in need of a third chance.
23. Be kinder than necessary. Kindness can change someone’s life forever, that extra mile can make a new beginning for them or for you.
24. Have s sense of humor. Don’t take things personal, find the humor and laugh. It is good for your health and the soul.
25. Wear yourself out, don’t rust out. Keep your body and mind moving; you are going to have more fun than sitting around getting rusty in your old age.
26. Appreciate others. Always take the time to let others know they are appreciated, even if it is to say, “Thank you for being YOU!”
27. Be enthusiastic about life. Whatever you are doing have fun with it and love doing it, even if it is cleaning house or doing yard work. With the right attitude all things are enjoyable.
28. Never carry a grudge. A grudge will wear you down and slow down your creative thinking. Learn to let go.
29. Give your best in all your relationships. Whether it is being a grandparent, aunt, uncle, mother, father, son, daughter or just a friend give it your all.
30. Remember Phones are made for your convenience. Don’t let them interrupt important moments. We all have an answering service now days.
31. Don’t grieve over past mistake. We all make them, besides they are just learning experiences. Learn from them and move on.
32. Don’t worry about who is right, but what is right. All that is important is to find the right answer; it doesn’t matter where it came from.
33. Give new people a chance; first impressions can be deceiving. Take the time to get to know that new person. You may be surprised who you find.
34. Take care of the people you love. Use your words, your touch and your thoughtfulness carefully and your love is going to shine through.
35. Memories are priceless. Build good ones every chance you get.
36. Stop whining. It is not going to do you any good and no one wants to listen to you anyway.
37. Don’t burn any bridges. You never know when you may have to across the river again.
38. Never underestimate the power of love. A person can move a 4,000 pound automobile when there is love and the situation calls for it.
39. Deal with the past and move on. The past helps you to be who and want you are meant to be in the future.
40. Don’t waste time hating. Hate is something that will eat you alive. Don’t let it slow you down or destroy you. Life is too short.
41. When angry take a few deep breaths before speaking. By doing this it will calm your mind and you can think better and prepare for what you want to say.
42. Know that Miracles do happen. Watch for them, believe in them and when you least expect it they will happen.
43. Be in charge of your life and happiness. Don’t give your control to others. Learn what makes you happy and what you enjoy, don’t try to be what you are not meant to be.
44. Always get up, get dressed and show up. You cannot have redoes in life. Time stops for no one.
45. God knows how you feel before you even realize it yourself.
46. If something doesn’t kill you it will make you stronger. This is a fact of life
47. Life is a gift without the bow. Yield to it when you need too. Learn to dance in the rain and have fun. Life only happens once, don’t throw it away.
48. Life isn’t always fair. When this happens you learn to play the game better and then you excel, so embrace it.
49. Don’t junk up your life with things that are not beautiful, fun or useful. This way your space will stay organized and clean, making room for a full life of happiness.
50. What other people think of you does not matter. Your opinion matters the most when it comes to YOU! If you don’t like something you can always change it.
51. Growing old is very important, embrace it with both hands. If it wasn’t for growing old you would die young.
52. It is better to live with gusto than die old in a worn out rocking chair. Have fun and do what you enjoy, don’t wait for your ship to come in when you are sitting on dry land.
53. Always choose life and forgive those that need to be forgiven. Forgiveness gives you control of your life again.
54. Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer. That way they can’t sneak up on you when you are not looking.
55. Not everyone is going to like you or approve of you and this is OK! You probably don’t want to be like them anyway.
56. If you are in doubt, look both ways and take small steps. By doing this you are moving forward and you won’t get hit by a freight train.
57. Friends and family is the most important people in your life. Stay in touch with them, because if you get sick it is a fact that these people are the ones that are going to be there for you, not your job.
58. Always keep the door open for love to find its way in. To really live and find happiness is to love. Love is what makes the world go around. Don’t put up walls to stop love, but build doorways, so it can find its way in and you have a way of letting it out. Love all people unconditional, because we are all different and are all special in our own way. Always look for that special part in everyone.
I am young enough to learn more, so if you are leading a rewarding life and have more tips to add to my list, bring them on!
