The right thing to do is to keep approaching the person every now and then as long as he is still not interested in you because if you disappeared at that time you will be forgotten. Did you notice how large corporations bomb you with their ads every now and then? they want to occupy your mind and control a part of your thoughts.
Now as soon as the person starts getting used to you or attached to you disappear or stop sending powerful signals. This will force him to think about you and to wonder why are you acting that way.
In short, disappearing before you attract a person's attention will certainly let him forget you but disappearing after triggering his thoughts will let him think about you even more in your absence.
According to subconscious mind programing, the more a person thinks about something the more he will become attached to it. The more a person thinks about you the more likely is he going to become attached to you.
