In my article how to deal with negativity and negative people i said that rejection should never put you down because most people know nothing.
Most people talk about things that they don't understand and they even give recommendations based on their own biased belief systems. Its not uncommon for a person who always feared to start his own business to tell you that its a bad idea to start one.
In such a case his advice was based on nothing more than his fear and if you believed him you will fail to reach what you want!
But what about experts?
What about people who seem to have some knowledge about that thing you are about to get into and who in the same time put you down?
What if an expert told you that you won't succeed because you didn't do so and so, should you believe him?
Just like ordinary people, experts know nothing as well and they are usually wrong. Read this article to know why experts are usually wrong.
In 2006 i was eager about starting this website but i was surprised when i found that most so called experts tried to put me down.
The web design experts told me that the website's design cannot make it successful.
The business experts told me that the business model was stupid.
The language experts told me that the language barrier will prevent me from succeeding.
The Marketing experts told me that my marketing budget won't make me successful.
The know it all experts told me that i should put my time in a more productive project
Few years later they saw me driving a 150,000 Dollars Car and they knew that this website made me a dot com millionaire . All of these experts without exception suddenly changed their minds about the site and some of them even claimed that they were always supporting it!! (see my book How i did it)
So why were all the experts wrong? And why did they change their opinion after wards?
And why didn't i believe them?
People consider experts superior beings while forgetting that they are normal human beings who have the same mind that any human being has.
Whenever a person learns more about a subject his mind becomes more rigid and less creative. Brain connections are developed when we use our minds more in creative ways but when we develop a single minded way of thinking sooner or later we will fail to see anything except what we have already learned. An expert won't listen to you then evaluate your words but he will just compare whatever you say to his already existing database. If anything you said matched something he tried earlier then he will quickly predict the end results you will get.
However what most experts fail to notice is that past experience is never an indication of future results. Just watch how experts give recommendations about stocks and you will laugh. When they recommend a stock that keeps falling they shortly change their minds and recommend selling it and when it starts going up again they quickly recommend buying it.
If a method didn't work in the past then this doesn't mean that it will never work in the future. If the database present inside the minds of experts has something against you then this doesn't mean that they are right. (see also Dealing with rejection)
At any point in my life i could have decided to believe the experts and stop perusing my goals; and in such a case i would have just proved their biased beliefs true!
The moral of this story is simple, if you believed in yourself much then expert opinion won't count and you will prove all people who rejected you wrong.
On the other hand if you believed the experts or those who reject you then shortly you will prove them right and you will never succeed.
I am not trying to say that all experts know nothing in all cases but what i am trying to let you understand is that when you believe in yourself so much then certainly all experts who go against you will be wrong.
I have managed to become a self made millionaire at the age of 28. This didn't happen by chance because i already wrote that goal down five years before i accomplished it.
